Academic Dean – part-time

Rapidly-expanding
independent higher-education college based in South East London
wishes to appoint a distinguished academic leader. The person
appointed will have considerable experience in academic management
in private sector.
The Academic Dean
constitutes the senior management team of the College. Under the
broad direction of the College Principal and within the general
outlines of the College Strategic Plan, the Academic Dean will have
the overall academic leadership and management responsibility of the
College.
The Academic Dean will
supervise the Business and IT departments in the College. Of
critical importance to success will be the ability of the Dean to
work closely with course co-ordinator of these departments, the
lecturers, in the provision of leadership across the key areas of
learning and teaching, curriculum and community relations and
development. She/he will also be expected to develop the College
collaborative activities with colleagues across the College
including with its sister colleges.
Within these general
academic and management responsibilities, the Academic Dean will be
expected to place particular emphasis on following areas: Policy and
Leadership, Teaching and Learning Enhancement, Teaching Scholarship
and Staff Development and External Relations.
While the focus of the
position is academic management it is expected that the Dean will
maintain relationship with existing partners and also strive to
develop partnership with institutions within the UK and overseas.
Preference may be given to an applicant with academic management
experience in public and private higher institutions and expertise
that will complement the College corporate strategies.
The Academic Dean is
supported by an Academic Administrator and course co-ordinators. The
College also has a range of other general administrative staff in
the areas of student support.
Criteria for
Appointment
Appointees are expected to meet the following criteria.

Minimum of
postgraduate qualification with three years academic
management experience in higher education institute
including private sector. Candidates with doctorate
(PhD, DBA) qualifications will be given preference;
however, this is not a requirement of the post.

A strong
commitment to the importance of teaching at all
levels and to innovation in curriculum design and
teaching methods, together with a distinguished
personal contribution to teaching.

Evidence of
ability to take an active role in the maintenance of
academic standards and in the development of
educational policy and of curriculum areas within
the College;
|
 |
Outstanding
scholarship and research of international standing
in a particular field of knowledge, professional or
creative activity.
|
 |
Good
management skills, a willingness and ability to
perform high level administrative tasks, to provide
leadership in policy development in a discipline and
to represent the College’s interests within the
wider community both scholarly and general;
|
 |
A proven
record of being able to encourage the development of
staff, to recognize and resolve potential conflict
and to maintain good personal relations with and
between staff or a perceived ability to do so;

 |
Participation in and providing leadership in
community affairs, particularly those related to the
discipline in professional, commercial and
industrial sectors where appropriate.

Tenure
The part-time Academic Dean
position is a permanent position subject satisfactory completion of
one year probationary period.
