Course Overview

The BTEC National Award in Dental Technology is a practical, work-based course. It is a qualification on its own and provides entry to the Foundation Degree. Its objective is to develop skills in both academic and practical areas of Dental Technology.

This course is designed to give a basic grounding in science and technology related to dental technology. Students learn how to manipulate dental materials in the production of custom made dental appliances that are prescribed by the dental surgeon. It is a one year course that is made up of six units that will gain a level three qualification. It is intended that successful students will progress onto the three year day release Foundation Degree in Dental Technology which will enable students to register with the General Dental Council as a 'dental technician'.

This is a one -year full time programme. (Flexible time schedule is available for home students) overseas students need to attend classes Monday to Friday.

This course is ideal for people in employment or mature students also who have got science related subjects.

What the course can lead to
The course is designed to lead onto the vocational Foundation Degree in Dental Technology. Further progression onto the BSC Hons Degree in Dental Technology is also planned.

BTEC National Awards are valued by employers and higher education (universities and colleges).You could go on straight away to work in a commercial dental laboratory. You may continue with your studies in BTEC National Diploma, BTEC Higher National Diploma or BSc Dental Technology.

 

 

Entry Requirement:

You need to have at least one of the following;

A BTEC First Certificate or Diploma in a related subject e.g. science or engineering

bullet

An intermediate GNVQ or equivalent in a related subject e.g. science or engineering

bullet

At least four GCSEs at A-C grades or equivalent.

bullet

An appropriate work experience i.e. Dentistry back ground.
